Technology in Classrooms

Technology-enhanced classrooms across campus offer everything from SMART Sympodiums and computers to VHS/DVD players and projectors. Equipment in these Smart classrooms is managed by Instructional Media Services (IMS). To be able to use the equipment, you'll need to:

Equipment can then be accessed by logging in to the classroom computer with your NetID and password.

Do you need multimedia equipment for your class or meeting, and the location is not in a technology-enhanced classroom? IMS can provide computers, projectors, and other equipment to any classroom from one of its three campus locations. Just make a reservation, and IMS personnel will deliver and set up the equipment for your class. IMS equipment is provided at no charge for university classes and at a minimal charge for other purposes.

Need assistance or support for using equipment in Smart classrooms?

  • The Instructional Media Services staff can provide short hands-on walk-throughs to let you get acquainted with the equipment. Contact them to set up an appointment.
  • Instructional Technology Services (ITS) works with IMS to provide training for using devices in technology-enhanced classrooms. Go to the ITS web site and select "Workshop Schedule" to register for hands-on. no-cost workshops.

If you need students to have hands-on access to computers during a class period or lecture, the Open Access Labs (OALs) have a number of computer classrooms available for reservation throughout the semester. Provided with some lead time, OAL staff can install custom software to facilitate class instruction. See Software Install Request Guidelines for more information.

*The instructor of record for each class in the Compass student information system is automatically given access to these computers. However, you'll still need to inform IMS who will be in the classroom and using the equipment. Use the reservation form on the IMS web site, or call or email IMS, or visit an IMS office.
