Teaching with Technology

Significant resources are available to instructors to apply technology in teaching and learning. If you are concerned about the need to invest time learning to use the technology, think about what it can do for you:

  • Will it save time, improve your productivity, or help you balance your multiple job responsibilities? Through eLearning, you can conduct multiple tasks through one interface including delivering class materials, conducting online test and surveys, communicating with students, and posting grades.
  • Will it help you connect with a student population who are, for the most part, very digitally engaged? Effective online delivery reaches a more diverse student audience with widely different social, economic, cultural, and language backgrounds.
  • Will using innovative ways to deliver information or conduct classroom discussions improve the quality of instruction? Since all students do not learn the same way, providing a learning experience that is different than the traditional classroom may enhance instruction. Students can listen to lectures or other educational content at their own pace, and they can help each other in a virtual community to understand and interpret course information.

Also, keep in mind that you do not need to be "Professor Avatar" to use online teaching tools. Full-featured, yet flexible, applications let you choose what options you want to use and incorporate into your courses.

If you are interested in technology-enhanced instruction, Instructional Technology Services (ITS) serves as a campus facilitator and advocate of teaching with technology at Texas A&M. They facilitate licensing, training, and support for many applications and technology resources:
