Class Email Lists
New email functions are available in the Class Roster at the Howdy web portal in the Instructor/Advisor tab. Instructors can send email to an entire class roster or to individual students within a class, or email all students in multiple classes you are teaching. Class rosters and course section email lists are automatically provided to you every semester. In addition, specialized lists can be requested through TAMUDirect. For example, you can email all students in a specific major in your class.
Note: TAMUDirect class rosters and lists of student addresses will be available in TAMUDirect through the fall 2009 semester. However, in spring 2010, rosters will only be available in Howdy through the Class Roster link in the "Instructor Self-Service" channel on the Instructor/Advisor tab. Course section email lists will continue to be provided in TAMUDirect, as well as in Howdy.
Class email lists have email addresses that work just like any other address, except they send messages to multiple inboxes. You can save mailing list addresses as contacts in your address book just as you normally would with email addresses that you use frequently. Then you do not need to log in to Howdy or TAMUDirect every time you want to send a message to your class. Note: You will still need to log in to Howdy to view updated lists of students enrolled in your sections.
To learn more about using class mailing lists, view the how-to Quick Guide on the Instructor/Advisor tab in the Learn About the Instructor/Advisor tab channel. For more about TAMUDirect, log in at tamudirect.tamu.edu and click the "Help" link.
