Passwords

By choosing good passwords and keeping them confidential, you make it more difficult for an unauthorized person to access your personal information and Texas A&M resources. Tips for maintaining safe passwords include:

  • Never use the same password for more than one account. For example, do not use your NetID password for your online banking account.
  • Never select the option to store or remember a password in your browser.
  • Never communicate a password by telephone, email, or instant messaging, or tell your password to anyone, including people who claim to be from customer service or security.
  • Never expose a password by writing it on a Post-It attached to your monitor, under your desk pad, or anywhere else where it can be easily found. Consider using a safe, cash box, or even your will to store important passwords or the mnemonic you used to create them.
  • Always log off before leaving a computer unattended.
  • Change your password if you suspect it has been compromised.
