Antispyware Software
The term "spyware" refers to a category of software that, when installed on your computer (with or without your knowledge or consent), may send you pop-up ads, redirect your browser to certain web sites, monitor the web sites that you visit, or perform any number of other activities. Some extremely invasive versions of spyware can even track every key you type.
The first defense against spyware is to install up-to-date antivirus software on your computer. You can order a copy at no charge at software.tamu.edu.
You can also install and run legitimate antispyware software. To find out more about how to protect against spyware, see 10 Tips For Safe Computing on the Information Security web site.
