Research Affiliations

The Vice President and Associate Provost for Information Technology and its departments are affiliated with a number of campus, state, and national initiatives providing expertise, leadership, support, and resources.

The Vice President and Associate Provost with members of CIS, Telecommunications, and TTVN play an active role in the development of the Lonestar Education and Research Network (LEARN). LEARN is cooperative effort of institutions and organizations of higher education in Texas working to provide high-speed, fiber-optic connectivity among their institutions, as well as to research networks around the world.

Part of CIS and VP-APIT, Texas A&M's Supercomputing Facility is a member of the High Performance Computing Across Texas (HiPCAT) consortium. HiPCAT members are Texas institutions that use advanced computational technologies to enhance research, development, and educational activities. The Texas Internet Grid for Research and Education (TIGRE) is a collaborative project of HiPCAT that will integrate the computing, visualization, and storage systems of HiPCAT institutions.

Texas A&M is a member of Internet2, a consortium of 207 universities working in partnership with industry and government to develop and deploy advanced network applications and technologies. The campus connects to the Internet2 Network at 1 Gigabit/second.

Texas A&M is also a member of the National LambdaRail (NLR) Research network and connects to the NLR PacketNet network at 10 Gbps and the NLR FrameNet network at 1 Gbps.
