Initiatives & Affiliations

VPAPIT and its departments are affiliated with a number of campus, state and national initiatives providing expertise, leadership, support and resources.

LEARN

The VPAPIT and members of CIS, Telecommunications and TTVN play an active role in the development of the Lonestar Education and Research Network (LEARN). LEARN is cooperative effort of higher education institutions and organizations in Texas working to provide high-speed, fiber-optic connectivity among their institutions, as well as to research networks around the world.

Internet2

Members of TTVNCIS, Telecommunications, ITS and VPAPIT are part of Texas A&M's contingent promoting Internet2. Internet2 is a consortium of universities, including Texas A&M, working in partnership with industry and government to develop and deploy advanced network applications and technologies. Texas A&M and Internet2 signed an agreement to create the first Internet2 Technology Evaluation Center (ITEC) focused on Voice over IPCIS and Telecommunications are providing support for this project.

HiPCAT

Part of CIS and VPAPIT, Texas A&M's Supercomputing Facility is a member of the High Performance Computing Across Texas (HiPCAT) consortium. HiPCAT members are Texas institutions that use advanced computational technologies to enhance research, development and educational activities. The Texas Internet Grid for Research and Education (TIGRE) is a collaborative project of the HiPCAT university consortium, which will integrate the computing, visualization and storage systems of HiPCAT institutions.
